Starting and arrival point: cemetery of Pettenasco (304 m a.s.l.).
Major points of interest: Pettenasco, Church of Saints Audenzio and Caterina, Church of Madonna della Neve, Pratolungo, River Pescone valley, Armeno, Parish Church of S. Maria Assunta.

Our route starts near the Parish Church of Pettenasco, dedicated to Saints Audenzio and Caterina (18th century), that interestingly has two bell towers, of which the oldest belonged to an ancient Romanesque chapel of the 12th century. After visiting the church we head towards the lake along Via Caduti della Libertà. Once arrived at the pier, we turn right along the scenic and quiet pedestrian lakeside promenade, until we reach the main road near a restaurant.
We cross the road and take Via Gaetano Fara that leads to the upper part of Pettenasco. We turn left along Via Stazione, which we follow until we reach the main road. We cross the road and take Via Pela, a steep pedestrian street that passes over the railway. The path now becomes less steep, going through meadows and fields, and continues along a paved road until it reaches a small chapel on the right. We turn right along a trail that leads to an old farmhouse, after which we keep on the right along a small stream. Near a small bridge we turn left and go up along Via Prea Grossa which, after a small stretch into the woods, leads us to the Church of Madonna della Neve (17th century). Leaving the church behind us, we take Via dei Castani and at the stop sign we turn right onto Via Principale until we reach Pratolungo (430 m a.s.l.).
Once passed on our left the Oratory of Saint Grato, we turn right onto a downhill paved road that shortly becomes a nice little path leading us into the River Pescone valley, among woods and lush meadows. After crossing the river, the trail goes up through the woods until it reaches the main road in the place called Regione Vinaggia. We turn right and, after 300 m, at the junction we stay on the left and pass through the village of Armeno along Via Omegna. Once passed on our left an old wash house, we keep to the right in Via Roma until Piazza della Vittoria (530 m a.s.l.), seat of the City Hall and heart of the town.
We keep to the right walking along the slightly downhill tree-lined avenue, and after 350 m on the left we find the Parish Church of S. Maria Assunta (12th century), a fine example of medieval architecture that is definitely worth a visit. We continue then in the same direction until we reach the main road that we walk for a short distance keeping to the right. We follow the direction "Lago d'Orta" and after about 250 m we turn right and take a comfortable dirt road which we follow for 550 m until we arrive to a crossroads. We turn now left and descend along the River Pescone valley for about 2 km until we reach a water spring and the picnic area called Paganetto. We walk over a picturesque stone bridge, then we pass under the historic railway viaduct and turn left to return to the center of Pettenasco where we started. After the Museum of the art of woodworking, we turn left and take a path that, running alongside the River Pescone, brings us to the main road. We cross the roadway and go along the sidewalk up to the bridge, beyond which we turn right heading to the lakeside promenade that we walk to return to the starting point.
